Group Covenant NCPA Monday Peer Consultation Group
I understand and agree to the following:
- This is a peer consultation group. At no time will any of us provide or receive supervision of any kind. It is not group psychotherapy for participants.
- Other members might offer feedback that references the APA Ethics Code, or North Carolina or federal law, but nothing I or other members say, verbally or in writing, constitutes an official ethics consultation or legal advice. I am responsible for seeking ethics consultation or legal advice from appropriate individuals or organizations.
- Except for quoting from written NCPA policies, procedures, rules, etc., nothing shared in this group constitutes official NCPA guidance or advice.
- I am an NCPA Member in good standing.[1]
- I will never knowingly reveal any PII (personally identifiable information) when presenting a case. I will take reasonable steps to hide the identity of my patient.[2]
- If I think I know the identity of the person another member is presenting, I will tell the group and leave the Zoom room until another member notifies me that the case presentation and discussion has concluded.
- I will offer feedback in a respectful manner if I believe too much identifying information is being offered in the case presentation.
- For any patients I present, they have acknowledged during an Informed Consent procedure that I occasionally consult with peers to continuously improve the quality of my services, although I do not reveal any PII.[3]
- I will not record group meetings in any manner, e.g., audio recording, take a video, use AI-assisted transcription, etc.
- I will maintain the confidentiality of the group members’ involvement and information shared by other members in order to create an open environment for professional sharing of ideas, concepts, and experiences.
- Exception: I may take contemporaneous written notes or write a summary of feedback I receive to document that I sought consultation on a particular case. Since the accuracy of our memories begins to decline within minutes, if I write a summary, I will do so by the following day (Tuesday) at 1:00 pm, i.e., within 24 hours of the group meeting.
- I will raise concerns about engagement (process) or content of the group with the group when or if such arises.
- I will respect myself and other members by creating a safe space where we honor openness and vulnerability.
- I will receive group members’ feedback (suggestions, concerns, praise, etc.) with an open mind, and with the understanding that I am ultimately responsible for making decisions about patients (clients) using my best clinical judgment.
- I will seek first to understand, then to be understood.
- I acknowledge that there is no hierarchy in the group. We can all learn from one another.
- I will work to be mindful of group processes, and to that end, invite all participants to engage and/or minimize monopolizing the group time/experience.
[1] Good standing means I have paid NCPA annual dues and am listed as a Member.
